BEE against the competition
Be aware that as a business consumer you do not have the same rights and protections as a domestic consumer and there is currently no code of practice that regulates the selling activity of energy suppliers and third parties
Stories of underhand sales tactics, cold calls, energy scams, miss-leading claims, contract small print and excessive commission payments have left thousands of small businesses paying far more for energy than they should be
Unfortunately, thousands of small businesses don't even realise that they have been duped into agreeing contracts. So how do you know that you are not one of them? How good was the advice you were given in the past by an 'energy salesman'?
We have prepared 10 questions to help you decide!
1. Did they cold call you?
2. Were they independant? if so how did you know?
3. How many supplier options were you presented with? more than three?
4. Did you see any written quotations?
5. Did they explain any of the contract small print or your obligations?
6. Did they disclose how much commission they receive from suppliers?
7. Were they trying to push one particular contract onto you?
8. After the sale did you receive any paperwork or contract terms & conditions?
9. Did they talk to you about termination notice periods?
10. Are they registered with the UIA (trade association for energy brokers)?
If the answer is no to any of the 10 questions or you have been 'pitched' with phrases like;
"Our service is completely free and impartial"
"Don't worry, we take care of everything"
"Sign today or your energy supply will be cut off"
