Can any business compare prices and switch electricity contracts?

Any business with a Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) or also known as the Supply or ‘S’ can compare prices and switch to another supplier.

Unlike the residential marketplace, were a customer can change energy supplier every 28 days, commercial energy is supplied via contract. The contracts that energy suppliers offer small and medium sized businesses will almost always be for a fixed term, typically between 1-5 years.

You may find that you are already under contract with your current supplier and will therefore not be able switch to a better deal until your contract renewal date. If you find yourself in this situation our free renewal reminder service will give you some very important advice and assistance.

If you have recently moved into new premises, never agreed a contract or are coming to the end of your current contract (and have met the termination conditions of the contract) you will be free to compare prices and switch to a supplier offering you the best deal.

How much money could I save?

The saying “loyal customers pay more” certainly applies to the energy industry. Renewal quotes to customers are up to three times more expensive than rates offered by the same supplier to new customers.

If you are coming to the end of your current electricity or gas contract our calculator will compare your supplier’s renewal offer against quotations from other energy suppliers. Business customers could save as much as 55% (against your suppliers renewal offer) by switching to another supplier.

The difference in price between energy suppliers can be significant.

What will your results show me?

The results page will show you the quotation from the electricity suppliers that choose to quote for your business.

Your quotation results will be ranked in order of price. To make your decision easier our calculator will give you a projected annual cost and potential saving against each supplier quotation. This annual projection will be based on your assessment of the amount of energy your business uses in a year.

Although the prices quoted will be the single biggest factor in your choice of energy supplier it should not be the only one. The results also highlight other important parts of the contract offers such as key product features, key contract terms & conditions, meter/billing & payment cycles, environmental services and additional supplier information.

This additional information should be include in your evaluation criteria and will ensure that you make a transparent and well informed purchasing decision.

I have more than one site in my business, how do I get a quote?

To get a quotation for more than one site you can call one of our business consultants on 0845 4562266.

Our business consultant will ask you for some details and provide a written quotation comparing prices from our supplier partners.

Will I need a new meter, pipes and cables if I switch?

No, your business will get the same gas and electricity through the same pipes and cables as you do with your current supplier. Everything will be maintained as before including the emergency services.
